Have you ever felt completely overwhelmed—when it seemed like there was no one who could truly understand or help you? In moments like that, it’s comforting to remember that God wants to help us. He isn’t distant or uncaring. The Bible assures us that Jehovah is both able and eager to support those who trust in Him.
Let’s look at Psalm 46:1, which says:
“God is our refuge and strength, a help that is readily found in times of distress.”
Notice that it doesn’t just say Jehovah can help, but that He is a help that is readily found. That means He’s never too busy or too far away. When we call on Him, He listens and responds in the best way for us.
But how do we get that help?
Psalm 145:18-19 gives us the answer:
“Jehovah is near to all those calling on him, to all who call on him in truth.
He satisfies the desire of those who fear him; he hears their cry for help, and he rescues them.”
These verses show that God wants a personal connection with us. When we approach Him sincerely—“in truth”— He will draw close to us just as it is written in James 4:8 where we are told that Jehovah “Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you.” Jehovah listens when we pour out our hearts in prayer, and He acts in our behalf. Sometimes that help might come as strength to endure, comfort through His Word, or encouragement from a caring friend. In every case, it’s proof of His loving concern.
It’s also important to notice that Psalm 145 says God satisfies the desires of those who fear Him. That means He doesn’t just give temporary relief—He provides lasting peace to those who are earnestly seeking him out.
So, what can we take away from these scriptures?
- First, God is always ready to help; He is our refuge and strength.
- Second, He wants us to come to Him sincerely in prayer.
- Third, when we do, He listens, acts and gives us exactly what we need.
When life’s problems seem too heavy, we can remember that we’re never alone. God is not just willing to help—He wants to help us. As the Psalmists remind us, Jehovah is our refuge and strength, and he hears those who call on Him in truth. If we keep turning to Him in prayer and trusting His guidance, we’ll see that He truly is a loving Father who wants to help us every single day.
